South Florida faces significant challenges, including more than 6,000 homeless children in Broward County and issues like absenteeism, mental health struggles, and limited early learning programs. These factors hinder social mobility and education. To address these issues, FAU received a $21 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Promise Neighborhoods program. The “Broward Unlimited Potential Promise Neighborhood” (Broward UP) initiative aims to provide children with access to quality education and strong community support, ensuring successful transitions to college or careers.

DOE’s RENEW Initiative to Support Seven Pathway Summer Institutes for Educators of Underrepresented and Underserved Groups in STEM
The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Science (SC) will support nearly 85 educators who either teach at schools and community colleges with large populations of students historically underserved and/or underrepresented in STEM or are educators who are from groups traditionally underrepresented in STEM through awards for seven Pathway Summer Institutes for Educators at seven national laboratories.
C2QA Fosters Growth of Quantum Workforce through Educational Programs
To increase awareness of quantum opportunities and help grow the U.S. quantum workforce, the Co-design Center for Quantum Advantage (C2QA) hosts and co-hosts educational programs that introduce students to the foundational principles of QIS and foster the development of skills needed for a successful career in this rapidly expanding field.
The programs held this year, including the QIS & Engineering High School-Level Program, QIS 102: Quantum Computing Summer School, and QIS 303: Quantum Error Mitigation, reached more than 170 participants worldwide, from students who just completed their first year of high school to full-fledged QIS researchers — and enthusiastic learners from every level of expertise in between.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has received $5 million in federal funding aimed at enhancing cybersecurity in the energy sector through education, workforce development, and innovation. The award comes from appropriations language authored by U.S. Sen. John Boozman passed into law in December 2022. The funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response.

NextOp and Ochsner Health have been awarded a $1.1 million grant to help transitioning military and veteran talent in the Mississippi River Delta area.
