Beall Center for Art + Technology awarded Getty Foundation grant for SoCal collaboration

Irvine, Calif., Jan. 27, 2021 — A $100,000 research and planning grant from the Getty Foundation will allow The Beall Center for Art + Technology to join the third regional collaboration in the Getty’s Pacific Standard Time: Art x Science x LA. Forty-five cultural, educational and scientific institutions throughout Southern California will receive support for their projects, all of which will explore the intersection of art and science.

Cellular processes and social behaviors and… zombies?

The Zombie Apocalypse Medicine Meeting will happen online October 15-18, 2020. The meeting spans the sciences, the arts and the scary while bringing scientists, artists and journalists together with the general public. This year’s meeting has been reanimated into a livestream broadcast on Channel Zed. Registrants will have access to programming on topics like how birth control, race relations, the pandemic, sex, literature and social media can all be thought of as zombification processes.

Free ArtPlay workshops for teachers will share tips for virtual teaching Aug. 11, Aug. 17

When musical theater and visual arts summer camps went online at the University of Alabama at Birmingham this summer, staff did not know what to expect. The award-winning camps, presented by UAB’s ArtPlay, are always popular, to the point of selling out all available spaces. Despite the teachers’ fears, campers and their parents loved the new virtual camps.

Four UCI professors awarded Guggenheim Fellowships

Irvine, Calif., April 14, 2020 — Four professors at the University of California, Irvine – historian Mark LeVine, scientist Andrej Lupták, sculptor Jennifer Pastor and journalist Amy Wilentz – have been named 2020 Guggenheim Fellows.
