46 percent of UC Irvine graduates receiving bachelor’s degrees are first-generation students
More than 8,200 students and their families will attend University of California, Irvine commencement ceremonies between Friday, June 16, and Tuesday, June 20, in the campus’s Bren Events Center. Overall, UCI will grant 8,966 degrees to 8,507 undergraduates this academic year. Additionally, 1,815 master’s degrees and 393 doctoral degrees will be awarded.

Nurturing an early interest in neuroscience
Last year’s lockdowns confined most people to their homes. For teenagers on summer break, a season usually dedicated to recreation and outdoor exploration, this meant long days of boredom. But for Nikhita Kaushik, who just finished her sophomore year at Irvine’s Arnold O. Beckman High School, the free time was a blessing. It enabled her to dive into her passion for neuroscience and establish the Southern California Youth Neuroscience Association.
UCI christens Michael Drake Drive to honor former chancellor
Irvine, Calif., June 7, 2021 — In recognition of his leadership during an era of unprecedented growth, the University of California, Irvine has honored Chancellor Emeritus Michael V. Drake, M.D., by christening a major entry road to the campus in his name. Michael Drake Drive is replacing a stretch of Bison Avenue beginning at the intersection of California Avenue and ending at Ring Road, near the center of campus.

Yet, beyond the economics, new study from the University of South Australia shows that the Adelaide Fringe also plays a crucial role in building the State’s social capital, a factor which is helping to combat South Australia’s ‘brain drain’.
