46 percent of UC Irvine graduates receiving bachelor’s degrees are first-generation students

More than 8,200 students and their families will attend University of California, Irvine commencement ceremonies between Friday, June 16, and Tuesday, June 20, in the campus’s Bren Events Center. Overall, UCI will grant 8,966 degrees to 8,507 undergraduates this academic year. Additionally, 1,815 master’s degrees and 393 doctoral degrees will be awarded.

Baseball legend, AI pioneer, Marine Corps commandant and comedian/actor to be honored at Tulane Commencement

Four individuals who have made major contributions in fields ranging from sports and entertainment to national defense and artificial intelligence will receive honorary degrees at Tulane University’s 2022 Commencement.

Henry “Hank” Aaron, one of baseball’s greatest players; Gen. David H. Berger, a Tulane graduate and commandant of the United States Marine Corps; Ken Jeong, a medical doctor who became one of the country’s most sought-after comedic actors and Dr. Rosalind Picard, an inventor, engineer, scientist and pioneer in artificial intelligence, will receive honorary degrees at the May 21 ceremony. Aaron will receive Tulane’s first-ever posthumous honorary degree.

Ithaca College Graduates Encouraged to Find A Gift in the Losses

Emmy-nominated television creator and producer Liz Tigelaar told some 1,300 Ithaca College graduates that the beauty in life comes in the questions and the unknowns, and to relish being in a moment where there is so much to discover. A 1998 IC graduate herself, Tigelaar was the main speaker at the college’s 126th Commencement ceremonies held on Sunday, May 23.

Nation’s Newest Physicians Graduate Virtually in the Midst of COVID-19

The 63 members of the class of 2020 recited the Hippocratic Oath in unison, virtually, as they were conferred the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. More than half the class will start their residency program in a state that is currently considered a hotspot for COVID-19. Seven are headed to New York; others will be going to New Jersey, Illinois, California, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Louisiana and Texas. One of the most popular residencies among FAU’s class of 2020 is emergency medicine; eight of the 63 graduates (13 percent) will begin training in emergency medicine this July.

Uniformed Services University to hold Virtual Graduation for new Military Docs, Advanced Practice Nurses

WIth all of the physical distancing and other restrictions currently in place, the Uniformed Services University will now be holding a virtual commencement ceremony on Wednesday, April 1. Medical students and advanced practice nursing students from the USU class of 2020 will be graduating several weeks early to help support their colleagues in the military health system amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

USU President Dr. Richard Thomas made the decision when the national emergency was declared.
