New Clinical Practice Guidelines on Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis

Almost four years since the last guidance on the diagnosis and management of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, the American Thoracic Society – in collaboration with the European Respiratory Society, Japanese Respiratory Society and Asociacion Latinoamericana de Torax – has issued new guidelines for clinicians. The guidelines are available online in the May 1 issue of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons publishes new guidelines for colonic volvulus and acute colonic pseudo-obstruction

Colonic volvulus, or twisting of the large intestine, is a potentially life-threatening cause of large-bowel obstruction. An updated set of evidence-based recommendations for management of colonic volvulus – as well as for a rare condition called acute colonic pseudo-obstruction (ACPO), which can mimic the symptoms of large bowel obstruction – have been published in Diseases of the Colon & Rectum (DC&R), the official journal of the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS). The journal is published by Wolters Kluwer.

New Clinical Practice Guideline on Community Acquired Pneumonia;

In its latest clinical practice guideline on community-acquired pneumonia the American Thoracic Society’s guidelines panel addresses the use of nucleic acid-based testing for non-influenza viral pathogens. Hypercapnia is the buildup of carbon dioxide in the bloodstream.
