Binghamton University collaborates with industry, academic partners on new $285M Manufacturing USA Institute

Binghamton University is a key partner in a new federally funded institute focused on the use of digital twins to improve domestic semiconductor design and manufacturing.

The U.S. Department of Commerce and the Semiconductor Research Corporation Manufacturing Consortium Corp. (SRC) announced last week that they are negotiating for the department to provide SRC $285 million to establish and operate a Manufacturing USA Institute. With combined funding totaling $1 billion, this investment will support the launch of the first-of-its-kind CHIPS Manufacturing USA Institute.

FAU Researcher Receives Grant to Personalize Radiation Therapy for Cancer

While chemotherapy has advanced in personalization, personalized radiation therapy for cancer remains underdeveloped. A new project will use AI, in particular, deep reinforcement learning, to analyze multimodal data, and enhance cancer characterization and treatment to ultimately improve patient outcomes. Using personal health data, genetic information about the tumor, and patient treatment and follow-up data, digital twins will simulate diagnoses and treatment options to help physicians choose the most effective treatments and monitor responses over time.

NIH Awards Researchers $3.14 Million Grant to Design Novel Model Aimed at Reducing Healthcare Disparities

Supported by a new $3.14 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to Cleveland Clinic, researchers are using an emerging technology known as “digital twins” to better understand healthcare disparities based on where someone lives. Researchers from Cleveland Clinic and MetroHealth aim to use this information to develop strategies designed to reduce these disparities in health outcomes.
