University Recognized for Preparing Future Teachers in the Science of Reading
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has been recognized by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) for its excellent preparation of future teachers in how to teach reading. UA Little Rock earned an A grade in NCTQ’s new report, “Teacher Prep Review: Strengthening Elementary Reading Instruction.” UA Little Rock is among just 23 percent nationwide to earn an A from NCTQ for meeting standards set by literacy experts for coverage of the most effective methods of reading instruction—often called the “science of reading.
Forward Arkansas Awards University Phase II Grant to Improve Recruitment and Training for K-12 Teachers
Forward Arkansas has named the University of Arkansas at Little Rock as one of two phase II grant recipients who will work with expert national partners in a multi-year collaborative program to recruit, train, and retain K-12 teachers in Arkansas. UA Little Rock will receive more than $453,000 as part of the implementation of phase II.

Most high school seniors consider factors like cost, majors, and distance from home when deciding where to go to college. Bradley Griffith, a graduating Doctor of Education student at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and director of fitness at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois, thinks there is another very real, but invisible factor at play that affects where seniors go to college – community college stigma.
