UrduNew Brunswick, N.J. (March 18, 2021) – With spring on the horizon, Rutgers master gardener coordinator Angela Monaghan is available for interviews on how to build a native plant garden.
“Everyone can encourage native plant communities in their backyards and on patios, no matter how big or small,” said Monaghan, master gardener program coordinator at Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County, which is part of Rutgers’ New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station. “By incorporating native plants into our landscapes, we can feed beneficial creatures and give them a place to reproduce while lowering our impact on the environment. Native plants need little irrigation, no fertilizers and minimal management, then reward us and our wildlife neighbors with natural beauty. When thoughtfully designed and planned, native plant communities can be aesthetically pleasing and ecologically functional.”
Monaghan recently gave a “Starting a Native Plant Garden” presentation as part of Rutgers’ Earth Day, Every Day webinar series, which runs on Monday evenings through April 26.
