Mount Sinai Ranked Among the Top in the Nation by U.S. News & World Report

(New York, NY – July 30, 2019) The Mount Sinai Hospital has again been listed on the “Honor Roll” in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings. The Hospital was ranked No. 14 nationally, up four spots from last year. Eight departments within the Hospital were ranked among the top 20 nationally in their specialties, up from five last year.

The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai was nationally ranked in Ophthalmology, No. 12. Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, Mount Sinai West and South Nassau Communities Hospital, the Long Island flagship hospital of Mount Sinai Health System, were all ranked regionally.

• Otolaryngology/ENT, ranked No. 28

U.S. News & World Report also ranked Mount Sinai as ‘High Performing’ or in the top 10 percent in the country, in treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, colon cancer surgery, and lung cancer surgery. 

U.S. News & World Report evaluates more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures, and conditions. The Best Hospitals rankings help guide patients who need a high level of care or who have a challenging condition or extra risk because of age or multiple health problems. Criteria such as patient survival and safety data, adequacy of nurse staffing levels, and other measures largely determine the rankings in most specialties. The rankings are produced by U.S. News with RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
