Take part an online symposium held by Tokyo Tech’s revolutionary research hub, the WRHI

The Tokyo Tech World Research Hub Initiative (WRHI) will hold an International Online Symposium to present the activities and achievements of its ambitious research program on Tuesday, November 10th, at 14:00 JST (UTC+9).

The WRHI, which was founded as part of the Institute for Innovative Research?IIR?at the Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech), has created a unique research environment that promotes collaboration and discussion among scientists from a variety of backgrounds. Leading researchers in a range of fields work together between disciplines to exchange ideas, deepen understanding, and conduct work that yields important insights. The research and technological developments made possible by this initiative are being used to address common challenges facing humankind.

The conference will feature an introduction outlining the formation of this program by the Chair of the WRHI Steering Committee, Professor Masaki Azuma. Numerous international speakers from a diverse range of disciplines will discuss the continuing development of the WRHI and its recent active and effective international research in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the plenary lecture, Professor Shlomo Havlin of Bar Ilan University, a pioneering and highly-regarded researcher in complex social and economic system modelling, will draw on his broad experience, discussing his research on “spreading phenomena”. Professor Misako Takayasu, unit leader of the Advanced Data Analysis and Modeling Unit of the IIR and Professor Havlin’s collaborator, will describe cutting-edge big data approaches being used to maximize economic activity while retaining necessary public health restrictions introduced in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. We’ll also hear about the importance of international research and programs such as the WRHI that facilitate institutional and interpersonal collaborations from Bradley L. Pentelute, Specially Appointed Associate Professor at Tokyo Tech and Associate Professor at MIT and Anne Zehnacker-Rentien, Specially Appointed Professor, Tokyo Tech and Professor, CNRS-Université Paris-Saclay. Finally, the WRHI will hold a panel discussion on how international collaboration can address important problems currently facing society.

The event is open to all interested parties and participation is free of charge. We hope that you will register and join us for the exciting 2020 Tokyo Tech WRHI International Symposium.
