Virtual Event at American University: Seeing Climate Change Symposium

 

What: Coinciding with the pivotal United Nations COP26 meeting in Glasgow, where world leaders are convening on efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions, Seeing Climate Change, a symposium at American University, will bring together leading figures from the arts, sciences, and policy worlds to address the climate emergency, with a special focus on the role of communications and art.

The Seeing Climate Change symposium is inspired by the exhibition Diane Burko: Seeing Climate Change, on display through December 12 at the American University Museum.

Highlights include

• Andrew Revkin, environmental journalist and director, Initiative on Communication Innovation and Impact, The Earth Institute, in conversation with author Devi Lockwood and philosopher Olufemi Taiwo on the roles played by the news media, visual arts, and science when it comes to representing climate change  
• Keynote address by Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali, vice president of environmental justice, climate & community revitalization for the National Wildlife Federation, and also the founder & CEO of Revitalization Strategies  
• “Making Climate Change Visible,” moderated by AU Center for Environmental Filmmaking Executive Director Maggie Stogner, and featuring panelists who produce climate-themed art and/or have the production or use of art at the center of their climate-oriented work
