UCLA Public Health Experts Available for Reporting on 50th Anniversary of 1971 Sylmar Earthquake

The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health has faculty with significant knowledge of the public health elements of natural disaster, including emergency medicine, rescue and recovery, and PTSD for survivors, emergency services personnel:

• Dr. David Eisenman, MD, director of the Fielding School’s Center for Public Health and Disasters (established in 1997, in the aftermath of the 1994 Norhridge earthquake) to reduce the health impacts of domestic and international, natural and human-induced disasters, including researching public health and medicine, engineering, physical and social sciences, and emergency management. The center has recently been named as one of 15 Academic Centers for Public Health Preparedness by the Centers for Disease Control. 
• Prof. Vickie Mays, PhD, a psychologist whose work includes research into the impact of public health disasters on mental health in a community.
