Social distancing means more online shopping and that’s good for climate change, right? Maybe not…

As we now become accustomed to the world of social distancing, where we may be encouraged to do our shopping online for the foreseeable future, some have suggested this is good for climate change. But Arde Faghri, professor of civil and environental engineering at the University of Delaware, has researched the impacts of home shopping on vehicle operations and greenhouse gas emissions. He found that online shopping puts an additional burden on local transportation networks.
