UrduNew Brunswick, N.J. (Nov. 10, 2020) – Rutgers University–New Brunswick climatologist David A. Robinson is available for interviews on the recent record heat in New Jersey, including four consecutive days of record high temperatures in New Brunswick.
“Today marks the sixth consecutive day with a maximum temperature in New Brunswick reaching into the 70s,” according to Robinson, New Jersey State Climatologist and a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Geography in the School of Arts and Sciences. “Despite some rain due to arrive, tomorrow may make it seven straight days before cooler air arrives for Thursday.”
“The average high during this portion of November is in the upper 50s,” according to Robinson. “This warmth has produced four consecutive daily record highs at the New Brunswick weather station, where records extend back to 1912. As of mid-afternoon today, the 76 maximum is a record, as was yesterday’s 78, Sunday’s 80 and Saturday’s 77. The 80 reading marked the latest in the season that this mark has been achieved. A persistent ridge of high pressure over the eastern United States deserves credit for this impressive streak. The four consecutive daily record highs are also quite unusual. Only two other such runs exist: Jan. 13 to 16, 1932, and Aug. 28 to 31, 1953. However, there was an impressive six-day run of record highs from June 2 to 7, 1925. Our current run will not be a match for that!”
