Hospital Privado Universitario de Córdoba is 1st to earn FACT-JACIE Stepwise Certification

Hospital Privado Universitario de Córdoba, Programa de Trasplante de Médula Ósea in Córdoba, Argentina is first to earn Certificate of Completion for Step One under the FACT-JACIE International Standards for Hematopoietic Cellular Therapy Stepwise Accreditation Program.

The Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and the Joint Accreditation Committee of ISCT-EBMT (JACIE) established the stepwise approach to globally improve hematopoietic cellular therapy and make transplantation accessible to qualified patients. The FACT-JACIE Stepwise Accreditation Program aims to improve the quality and safety of bone marrow transplantation in lower-middle-income economies (LMIE) through compliance with established standards; creating a framework for quality management, education, and training; and providing a stepwise process towards full FACT-JACIE accreditation.

“FACT, JACIE and the Latin American Bone Marrow Transplant (LABMT) group joined forces several years ago to develop quality programs in Latin America” said Dr. Carlos Bachier, Co-chair of the FACT-JACIE Task Force. “These efforts culminated in the development of the FACT-JACIE International (FJI) stepwise certification program. Certification of Hospital Privado Universitario de Cordoba is a milestone and testament to the hard work and commitment from members of FACT, JACIE, LABMT, and the program in Cordoba. We are also hopeful for the expansion of the FJI stepwise program to other regions of the world.”

Dr. Kim Orchard, Co-Chair of the FACT-JACIE Accreditation Committee said, “JACIE is very happy to see the first centre achieve certification under the FACT-JACIE International stepwise process. This demonstrates that achieving significant improvement in quality in transplantation can be achieved as much – if not more – through changes in work culture and habits as by making costly investments in systems and facilities. We look forward to seeing other centres in the future benefit from the example set by Hospital Privado Universitario de Córdoba and acknowledge the crucial leadership being shown by the LABMT for the centres in that region.”

“We are proud to have been honored with the FACT-JACIE Certification. The efforts made though the process of accreditation were an important motivation for our team to work in pursuit of the same goal; to improve the care of patients as well as the outcomes. This certification is also a challenge to continue to improve our program and the introduction of innovations,” said Dra. Ana Basquiera, Transplant Director of Hospital Privado Universitario de Córdoba.
