Newsweek and Statista developed a complex methodology to ensure the quality and validity of the ranking. Three data sources were used for the evaluation:

Hospital recommendations from peers through an international online survey included more than 74,000 doctors, hospital managers and healthcare professionals.

Patient experience surveys measuring patient satisfaction with hospitals.

Medical key performance indicators, including patient safety, hygiene measures, and quality of treatment.

The Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University opened in 2018, the first private medical school in New Jersey in more than 50 years, welcomed its second class of 96 students in 2019 to its On3 campus in Nutley and Clifton.
