Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center Appoints Nazly M., Shariati , M.D. as Medical Director of Thoracic Surgery

MONTCLAIR, New Jersey (April 21, 2020) – Mountainside Medical Center has announced that Nazly M. Shariati, M.D. will take on the role as medical director of thoracic surgery and surgical director of the lung cancer screening/lung nodule program. In this role, Dr. Shariati will operate the thoracic surgery program to ensure its organization and delivery of excellent, timely and evidence-based care.

She earned her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati and completed a residency in general surgery at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Following her general surgery residency, she completed a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York and a lung transplant fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Board-certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery, Dr. Shariati specializes in lung surgery, lung cancer, thoracic surgery, tracheal surgery and esophageal cancer.  She has been in clinical practice as an attending thoracic surgeon for over 20 years.

Dr. Shariati currently serves as associate chief of the department of thoracic surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center. She is also an associate clinical professor of thoracic surgery at the Seton Hall University School of Medical Sciences. Dr. Shariati serves on several other nationally recognized boards and committees. She has been named one of Castle Connolly’s top doctors for cardiothoracic surgery.
