Public Health Expert Available to Discuss Trump Administration’s “Public Charge” Rule

Sara Rosenbaum, JD, the Harold and Jane Hirsh Professor of Health Law and Policy at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, is available to discuss the public health implications of the Trump Administration’s “public charge” rule. In a 5-4 ruling on Jan. 27, the U.S. Supreme Court will allow the Trump Administration to implement the rule, which allows immigration officials to designate immigrants as a “public charge” if they utilize certain “public benefits,” including many forms of Medicaid, certain types of federal housing assistance or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Rosenbaum can discuss at length how the “public charge” rule can impact health policy, Medicaid and public health nationwide. In September 2019, Rosenbaum was among the 60 deans and scholars from 27 schools of public health, public policy, nursing and medicine who signed an amicus brief discussing how the rule could have dire consequences for immigrants, their families and the nation’s public health. Click here to read more.
