Student engagement declines in STEM undergraduates during COVID-19-driven remote learning

Research led by Kris Callis-Duehl, PhD, Director of Education Research and Outreach at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center asked how has the shift to online classes during the pandemic impacted STEM student’s engagement in class? The team detected an alarming “decrease in emotional engagement, with students reporting a drastic decline in positive attitudes toward science.” This kind of research can be applied to help mitigate or address some of the problems resulting from recent disruptions in education.
