Mount Sinai Receives $4 Million Gift to Support Prostate Health and Urology Department

Mount Sinai has received a $4 million donation from Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch to support prostate health and the Milton and Carroll Petrie Department of Urology at Mount Sinai.  

The prostate program located at 625 Madison Avenue and founded by Ash Tewari, MBBS, MCh, Kyung Hyun Kim, MD Professor and Chair of Urology will be named The Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch Center for Prostate Health.

“The Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch Center for Prostate Health is transforming prostate cancer treatment and we are pleased to continue to support Dr. Tewari’s innovative and important work in helping to treat this disease and improve overall patient care,” said Jonathan Tisch,  Co-Chairman of the Board of the Loews Corporation and Chairman & CEO of Loews Hotels & Co.  With this visionary gift, Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch continue their generous history of philanthropic giving at Mount Sinai, improving prostate health for generations to come.

According to the American Cancer Society, one in nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, making it the most common cancer among men other than skin cancer. While it is a serious disease, prostate cancer is treatable if caught early.

“I am extremely grateful for Lizzie and Jonathan’s ongoing commitment to help better the lives of our patients,” said Dr. Tewari, a world-renowned urologist and prostate cancer specialist. “This gift provides our department with an elevated level of care for patients while also fostering research opportunities for our experts to continue to be pioneers in the field.”  

The medical services provided at the Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch Center for Prostate Center include state-of-the-art prostate cancer screening and imaging technologies, precision urology, focal therapy, targeted biopsies, robotics for prostate cancer surgery, prostate cancer fusion biopsy, and active surveillance. Additionally, prostate cancer experts such as Dr. Tewari; Avinash Reddy, MD; Sujit Nair, PhD; Robert Valenzuela; MD; Michael Palese, MD; and Steven Kaplan, MD, are available to see patients at the newly named Center.

The Department of Urology at the Mount Sinai Health System has one of the most robust robotic surgery programs in the country, with Dr. Tewari having performed more than 7,000 surgeries. Genomic testing and advanced imaging are routine for patients with prostate cancer, providing personalized and precise treatment protocols.
