Matthew is a 25-year-old student pursing a Master of Science in Business Analytics degree at the University of California, Irvine Paul Merage School of Business. Predictive analytics is a tool used to forecast future events, from product sales to stock market fluctuations to the weather.
“It’s about taking past data you have about a topic or subject and finding trends for what could happen in the future,” he explains. “In the NFL, it can be used by coaches and staff to identify why some teams are Super Bowl winners, so they can be more like them.”
His prediction for Super Bowl LIV is a 49ers-Chiefs matchup, with the 49ers emerging victorious.
As for his future, he’s planning on developing an app for his model. “I’ve got the analytics, algorithms and data points, I just need a user-friendly interface,” he says. “And I’d like to add more functionality.”
