Terrorism has changed in the 18 years since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Attack techniques and recruiting efforts continue to evolve as prevention and security improve.
The method might change, but the intention remains the same, said Dr. Vesna Markovic, Department Chair and Associate Professor of Justice, Law and Public Safety Studies at Lewis University, has been studying suicide bombings since 1981.
“They are moving more toward low-tech attacks, such as vehicle ramming attacks and mass shootings,” commented Markovic, who has been lecturing for the NATO Centre of Excellence Defense Against Terrorism (COE-DAT) in Ankara since 2008.
