Urdu“I would like to congratulate Deb, Skye, Sean and Joan for your recent appointments as officers to the Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees and would like to welcome Chris and Matt,” says Joseph Stampe, president and chief development officer of Hackensack Meridian – Meridian Health Foundation, to which Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation belongs. “Southern Ocean Medical Center is doing tremendous things for the community and I know that under the guidance of this strong board, the foundation will be able to greatly help the medical center reach new heights. I would also like to thank our previous officers, including Tom Dolan, who will be chair emeritus, as well as Deb and Joan, for significantly helping to increase gifts made in support of Southern Ocean Medical Center. Tom, in particular, has dedicated many years and countless hours to raise funds for the medical center and we are grateful for his support throughout the years. He will be greatly missed, but I have the utmost confidence in Deb and this new leadership team.”
Deb Mathis, CPA, CHBC, shareholder, Healthcare Services Group, joined Cg Tax, Audit & Advisory (formerly Cowan, Gunteski & Co., P.A.) in July 1996 and consults with physician practices in the following areas: revenue enhancement strategies, practice vital signs, compensation formulas, physician buy-sell agreements and valuation of medical practices. She is a Certified Healthcare Business Consultant (CHBC) and is uniquely trained and experienced in both the financial and operational facets of medical and dental practices. Mathis is a frequent speaker and author on topics related to medical practice management and revenue enhancement for physician groups, hospitals and various medical associations. She has been published in MD News, The Journal and numerous other periodicals, and frequently conducts seminars in hospitals and offices. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. In addition to her role with Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation, Mathis is a board member of CPC Behavioral Healthcare, past president of the United Way of Ocean County and trustee of the Meridian Health Professional Care Committee.
Skye J. Gibson is assistant vice president, senior financial advisor at The Somers Group, Merrill Lynch. He is a Certified Financial Planner™ certificant, a designation awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. Gibson’s previous experience includes public accounting and owning small businesses. He is a 2001 graduate of the University of Delaware, with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and earned a Master’s in Business Administration in 2006 from the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. Gibson also serves on the board of trustees for the Hunger Foundation of Southern Ocean County Community Foundation.
Sean Kauffman is senior vice president, senior relationship manager, Commercial Lending, at OceanFirst Bank where he is responsible for the development and management of a commercial loan and deposit relationship portfolio, which includes the Ocean County market. He has been in banking since 1987 and has previously served as vice president and senior loan officer at TD Bank. Kauffman previously served on the Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees and as a volunteer assisting with special events and chairing the golf and tennis invitational. Over the years, he has been a board member for organizations such as the United Way of Ocean County, Southern Ocean Chamber of Commerce, NJ Savings League Commercial Lending Committee and the Ocean Planning Board Fisheries Loan Advisory Committee. Kauffman is a graduate of Rutgers University and has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.
Joan Hart was appointed to the Southern Ocean County Hospital Foundation, now known as the Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation, in 1998 and has served on numerous foundation committees over the past 22 years. She is the chair of the “Lights of Life” holiday celebration at the medical center and dedicates her time to many other local organizations. Hart is a member of the Ocean County Board of Realtors and fundraises for the Beach Haven Committee Arts Program. In 2001, she was honored with the Girl Scout’s Women of Achievement Award. For the past several years, Hart has chaired the Girl Scout Council’s Women of Achievement event and has been a member of the committee since its inception. She served as a trustee of the Tuckerton Seaport, volunteered for the United Jewish Appeal on Long Beach Island and is a past member and recording secretary of the Soroptimist Club of Long Beach Island.
Christopher Fritz served with the Stafford Township Police Department for more 25 years where he headed the department’s Community Policing Unit for over half of his career. Additionally, Fritz was a DARE Officer for 19 years and vital to the department’s Youth Police Academy. He was also instrumental in the creation of Project AWARE, a program designed to teach middle school students about substance abuse and the consequences of making poor choices. Fritz retired from Stafford PD in July 2019 but remains active in the Stafford/LBI area as a professional musician. He lives in Stafford Township with his wife, Tammy, and their two daughters, Alexa and Cassidy.
Matthew Matey is an insurance and risk management advisor and Chartered Benefits Consultant (CBC) with The McCue Agency. He has an extensive background in group health insurance, employee benefits and Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliance. Matey is actively involved with animal rescue, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ocean County and David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation. He and his wife, Kelly, and their daughter, Samantha, reside in the LBI area.
These officers and new members will work in partnership with an established board of trustees and in partnership with Southern Ocean Medical Center administration to raise funds for projects and services to enhance patient care at the medical center. Gifts raised under their leadership will all contribute toward a $150 million fundraising goal as part of Meridian Health Foundation’s Giving Heals campaign. Giving Heals supports four important initiatives: strengthening oncology services, improving clinical outcomes, enhancing the patient experience and broadening clinical research and academic programs at the following Hackensack Meridian Health medical centers in Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean counties: Bayshore Medical Center, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, Ocean Medical Center, Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge, Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, Riverview Medical Center and Southern Ocean Medical Center.
