New study found an increased risk of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes among women delivering after Hurricane Harvey made landfall.

Hector Mendez-Figueroa, MD, first and corresponding author, is available to talk about his research:

New study found an increased risk of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes among women delivering after Hurricane Harvey made landfall. The study was just published in Obstetrics & Gynecology (The Green Journal).

Mendez-Figueroa is an associate professor of OBGYN at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston.

The study reveals that natural disasters can have harmful effects, especially on vulnerable populations. Pregnant women and other vulnerable populations should have priority for resources and/or evacuation during natural disasters.
