UrduWHAT: On May 7, the Colonial Pipeline Company was the victim of a cybersecurity attack. The Georgia Institute of Technology has several experts with extensive knowledge and experience in cybersecurity, cyber forensics and critical infrastructure. As much of the Southeast continues to feel the impact of the disruption and more details emerge about the attack, Georgia Tech experts are available for interviews and comments on the breach.
AVAILABLE EXPERTS:
• Raheem Beyah, Dean of the College of Engineering at Georgia Tech. Beyah’s areas of expertise include cybersecurity and critical infrastructure. He is well equipped to speak to the vulnerability of our critical infrastructure, how hackers select these targets and preventative measures.
• Brendan D. Saltaformaggio, PhD., assistant professor in the School of Cybersecurity and Privacy and School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Saltaformaggio is available to speak to how important and how difficult it will be to recover from this attack as well as how the recovery will be accomplished and what the risks are for future attacks.
• Timothy Lieuwen, Regents’ Professor, holder of the David S. Lewis, Jr. Chair, and the executive director of the Strategic Energy Institute at Georgia Tech. His interests lie in the areas of clean energy and propulsion systems, energy policy, acoustics, fluid mechanics, and combustion. Lieuwen argues that for long-term prevention of these issues, more people in cybersecurity, more training at all levels, and regional cybersecurity centers are critical parts of the equation.
