Join Online Events to Celebrate Bird Migration

Ithaca, NY—Day and night, across the country right now, a river of migrating birds is flowing overhead. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology holds its Migration Celebration to take note of this remarkable natural phenomenon. This year, Migration Celebration is taking place virtually with two weeks of special online events, including articles, activities, and live events. Cornell Lab migration specialists will give online talks and there are a variety of family-friendly activities so the whole family can get involved.

The following webinars explore migration from every angle—from making migration forecasts to capturing the magic in stunning documentaries. All webinars are free, but please register to secure your place.

1. Lights Out to Protect Migratory Birds
   Thursday, September 17, 1:00-1:30 p.m. Eastern

   Every spring and fall, billions of birds migrate through the U.S., mostly under the cover of darkness. They face dangers caused by light pollution. Find out how artificial light at night impacts migratory birds and learn how you can help with Lights Out Project Coordinator Julia Wang.

2. Mapping Migration with eBird

3. Coastal Solutions: Building a Bold New Community to Address the Shorebird Crisis

   Shorebird population declines represent the world’s number one bird conservation crisis. Program Director Osvel Hinojosa-Huerta will moderate this discussion with three Coastal Solutions Fellows doing their work along the Pacific Americas Flyway in Guatemala, Colombia, and Chile. 

4. Media that Matters: Natural History Filmmaking that Makes a Difference

5. Migration Madness: Celebrating Migration Together—Family Event!
   Celebrate with families across the country during this live event where participants will learn about migration and participate in games and activities. Suggested age range is grades K–5. Two sessions are offered; please sign up for the morning or afternoon. Attendance is limited.
