Expert can discuss health risks associated with smoke from Australian bushfires

Smoke and fire from the bushfires raging in Australia pose major health risks, not only to those exposed now but also individuals involved in the cleanup. 

Jennifer Horney, an epidemiology professor and faculty member in the Disaster Research Center at the University of Delaware, can talk about these risks as well as how changes in the climate is increasing the frequency and severity of wildfires.

Horney’s research focuses on the impacts of natural disasters on public health, as well as linkages between disaster planning and the actions communities and individuals take to prepare, respond and recover. She has trained rapid response teams around the world to respond to outbreaks of novel and reemerging diseases, such as Influenza A H1N1.
