The designation reads in part, “The ASA has been reviewed by the ACCME and awarded ‘Accreditation with Commendation’ for six years as a provider of CME for physicians. Accreditation in the ACCME system seeks to assure the medical community and the public that ASA delivers education that is relevant to clinicians’ needs, evidence-based, evaluated for its effectiveness, and independent of commercial influence.”
The ACCME system employs a rigorous process for evaluating institutions’ CME programs according to standards that reflect the values of the educator’s community and aims to accelerate learning, inspire change, and champion improvement in health care. Through participation in accredited CME, clinicians and teams drive improvement in their practices and optimize the care, health, and wellness of their patients.
“It is an honor for ASA to have achieved the ‘Accreditation with Commendation’ designation,” said ASA President Mary Dale Peterson, M.D., MSHCA, FACHE, FASA. “Accredited CME is incredibly important to our members who wish to be informed and up-to-date on a wide range of topics essential to ensuring the best and safest care for our patients. Whether we work in clinical care, research, academia, health care administration, executive leadership, or other areas of medicine, accredited CME is critical not only for our patients, but also our lifelong learning and careers.”
As a long-time leader in CME for physician anesthesiologists, ASA previously received ACCME accreditation in four-year increments. The “Accredited with Commendation” status marks the first time ASA has sought and received the prestigious six-year approval from ACCME.
