WHAT: The Center for Environmental Policy at American University and the American Lung Association will co-host a virtual discussion with Mary Nichols, Chair of the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Nichols will share the improvement she has seen in both California’s and the nation’s air quality over her 45+ year career. She will reflect on the 50th anniversary of the Clean Air Act and focus on the remaining obstacles to achieving clean air for all – including climate change.
WHEN: Wednesday, October 14, 2020, 4 – 5 p.m. ET
BACKGROUND: Moderated by Daniel Fiorino, director of the American University Center for Environmental Policy, the conversation will explore the future of clean air policy, including the importance of achieving health equity and environmental justice, and states’ role in addressing air pollution and climate change. The discussion will also examine threats to public health, including extreme wildfires and higher COVID-19 mortality rates in communities with long-term exposure to air pollution.
The discussion comes on the heels of the recent “Clean Air For All” virtual symposium co-hosted by American University’s Center for Environmental Policy and Center for Environmental Filmmaking and the American Lung Association.
MEDIA RSVP: This event will be held on Zoom. To join the event, please contact Alex Trimble ([email protected]) to RSVP. After you RSVP, you will receive an email with information on how to join the event.
