Psychologist available to discuss talking to kids about COVID-19

The coronavirus pandemic is disrupting the daily routines of people across the globe, and the changes can be especially hard on children. With many schools temporarily closed in an effort to reduce the risk of community spread, kids may have lots of questions. How adults respond makes a difference.

“If we react with panic and fear, they are going to react with panic and fear,” Dr. Beth Trammell said.

Trammell is available to discuss how to talk to kids about COVID-19. She is an associate professor of psychology at Indiana University with more than 15 years of experience working with children and families. Trammell engages parents and teachers in the community through online and community-based offerings, including training on how to have hard conversations with kids.

She can be reached at batramme@iue.edu or 765-973-8362.
