UCLA Health #TeamLA Campaign Unites Los Angeles

May 5, 2020 – (Los Angeles, CA) – The UCLA Health #TeamLA movement has gained incredible traction over the past six weeks as people from all walks of life joined the spirit-raising initiative launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. UCLA Health says it will continue the momentum of this inspiring social media campaign for as long as it is embraced by the community.

Celebrities such as LeBron James, Kim Kardashian and Courteney Cox have recorded videos in support of #TeamLA. In addition, Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jared Goff of the LA Rams have added their voices to the conversation. UCLA Health also has gained tremendous support from its partners, UCLA Athletics, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Dodgers and countless community members.

“Our top priority is always the health and safety of our patients, staff and the people of Los Angeles. To see #TeamLA being adopted and shared so broadly is recognition of how important this initiative is,” said Johnese Spisso, president of UCLA Health, CEO of UCLA Health System and associate vice chancellor for UCLA Health Sciences. “Partnerships with UCLA Health, the Dodgers, the Lakers and other health care providers in the region will continue to help spread these messages of perseverance and resilience to an even wider audience. We are inviting everybody, including those in other industries, to join in supporting one another. By sharing in the #TeamLA movement, we can lift each other up and encourage one another to put health first.”

UCLA Health recognizes that in addition to frontline workers, there are many key players who are working hard to keep the community safe. From grocery store workers, first responders and delivery drivers to everyone keeping their physical distance and maintaining good hand hygiene, UCLA Health has united us with one common hashtag – #TeamLA. The initiative draws on the region’s proud sports history by using slogans like “We play for #TeamLA” and “Physical distancing isn’t easy. But it’s worth it.”

The initiative has four key goals: raise the collective civic spirit, encourage responsible behaviors like maintaining good health, acknowledge the hardships that COVID-19 has presented and show gratitude to local MVPs and heroes.

“We recognized we needed to do something new and different to unite us, and lift spirits during these challenging times,” said Tanya Andreadis, chief of marketing at UCLA Health. “We’ve been overwhelmed by the support for #TeamLA. The stories we are hearing, the photos and videos people are sharing, are heartwarming. Our community is really showing us the heart and soul of Los Angeles, and it makes me feel proud to be one of the county’s 10-million residents.”
