Sarah Mowry, MD, is a board certified neurotologist at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, and treats patients with disorders of hearing and balance. She has written several articles and book chapters regarding Meniere’s disease and specializes in both medical and surgical treatment of this disorder.
She said, “Meniere’s disease (MD) a challenging disorder to live with but there are a number of medical and surgical treatments to control the symptoms. Hearing loss does fluctuate in the disease, as Mr. Lewis experienced. Many patients are able to effectively use hearing aids in the MD ear. The balance symptoms of MD are often controlled with a low sodium diet and diuretic. If these conservative measures do not work, other procedures are available to help control symptoms.”
Dr. Mowry can be available for phone interviews or through the University Hospitals digital television studio.
