Risk Management Academy Forthcoming from Smith Enterprise Risk Consortium

Registration is open for SERC Risk Academy, an intensive three-day workshop focused on the fundamentals of risk management and best practices across industry sectors. Conducted by UMD professors and industry leaders, the training is geared to early-to-mid career risk managers.

The Smith Enterprise Risk Consortium (SERC) at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business presents the program to run 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, March 18-20, 2025, on the UMD College Park campus.

“The goal of the academy is to expose up-and-coming risk practitioners to cross-industry perspectives so they can think about risk differently,” says Clifford Rossi, SERC Director, professor of the practice and executive-in-residence at the Smith School.

“Our high-caliber faculty are set to impart their knowledge to the next generation of risk practitioners, so they do not have to learn it the hard way,” Rossi says. “The cohort will hear from leaders in financial services, pharmaceuticals, insurance and aerospace — all regulated industries, but each with different experiences in risk management.”

Rossi, with 25 years of experience in risk management in banking and government, will be joined by other accomplished experts in delivering the training, coordinated by Smith’s Office of Executive Education. The instructors are:

“The training aligns with the mission of SERC to build a strong community of professionals committed to raising greater awareness of the value that risk managers play in the workplace,” Rossi says. “The underlying premise of SERC is that risk is industry-agnostic, and that every risk practitioner can benefit and learn from the experiences of other industries.”
