The Chair of Business and Economic Education under Professor Olga Zlatkin-Troitschanskaia will host an international conference and corresponding transfer workshop at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin from December 4 -6, 2019 in the context of the research project “SUCCESS – Study Success and Study Opportunities for Refugees”. At the international conference “Digital Approaches to Increasing Equity in Higher Education – Opening Universities for Refugees”, the current, globally leading projects and findings on the successful university integration of refugees will be presented and critically discussed.
The SUCCESS research project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). In addition to Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, which coordinates the collaborative project, the partners at RWTH Aachen, Munich University of Applied Sciences, and the start-up Kiron Open Higher Education (Kiron) (for further information, see

) are involved with three additional sub-projects.
The international conference combines the expertise of outstanding scientists from current refugee research with insights into the opportunities and limitations of digital educational opportunities. Keynotes will be given by Professor Sarah Dryden-Peterson (Harvard University) and Professor Don Dippo (York University), who will critically reflect on the current educational perspectives for refugees interested in studying. Representatives of the European Commission and UNESCO will discuss current international developments at the education policy level.
The international conference is addressed to interested researchers, representatives of educational practice and politics as well as the general public. In the first two days of the conference, the focus will be on the scientific foundation and evidence; the corresponding transfer workshop will address practice-relevant research results as well as expertise and experience from various educational institutions such as “Studienkollegs”, International Offices and other practitioners who professionally deal with the integration of refugees in the university sector.
Registration is free of charge and can be made by 31 October 2019 by sending a brief e-mail to
