According to Rajesh R. Naik , “The current COVID19 crisis provides opportunities for the materials research community to provide solutions to overcome some of the challenges posed by the pandemic in areas such as decontamination, diagnostics and personal protective equipment by leveraging cutting-edge materials science and manufacturing solutions.”
Naik received his BSc degree in microbiology from the University of Bombay (India), and PhD in biological sciences from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (USA). Rajesh is currently the Chief Scientist of the 711th Human Performance Wing of the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He serves as the primary science and technology adviser to the wing commander and he provides technical vision and strategy for the wing’s $250M science and technology program in human performance and operational medicine. His team was actively involved in the COVID-19 pandemic response supporting Air Force, DoD and other governmental agencies. His personal research focuses on bionanotechnology, biosensors and materials science. He has published over 300+ articles and has received 13 patents. He is a Fellow of the Materials Research Society, American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering Royal Society of Chemistry, International Society for Optics and Photonics, and the Air Force Research Laboratory.
