Composition of ‘Good’ Cholesterol HDL Varies in Different Organs

Article title: Organ-specific lymphatics play distinct roles in regulating HDL trafficking and composition

Authors: Gracia Gracia, Enyuan Cao, Angus P. R. Johnston, Christopher J. H. Porter, Natalie L. Trevaskis

From the authors: “The composition of lipoproteins, and in particular HDL, in lymph is organ specific. HDL may be transported directly from the intestine and liver via the lymphatics and subsequently modified during passage into the thoracic lymph duct. Future studies may seek to identify the mechanisms driving lipoprotein remodeling in the lymphatics.”

This study is highlighted as one of April’s “best of the best” as part of the American Physiological Society’s APSselect program.
