The Rutgers School of Public Health has launched its newly revised Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Degree in Leadership, Practice and Research, which is accepting students for the Fall 2020 semester.

The doctoral degree prepares mid- to senior-career public health professionals to gain knowledge and skills in leadership, practice, and research, which will assist them in assuming positions of greater responsibility and helping to achieve public health impact at the local, national, and international levels.

The program is being relaunched amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, when the state, our country, and the world are experiencing a shortage of public health professionals. Since the program had already been designed to provide a high-quality hybrid learning experience, it is uniquely well-positioned to deal with any potential further disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Now, more than ever, we need agile public health leaders who are equipped with the skills necessary to address future health crisis,” said Perry N. Halkitis, PhD, MS, MPH, dean of the Rutgers School of Public Health.

The Rutgers School of Public Health is the only institution offering the DrPH in New Jersey.

The 48-credit part-time hybrid DrPH degree program, offers courses that are completed online and supplemented with several face-to-face meetings across the duration of the program. After completing required coursework, students will take a comprehensive qualifying exam, participate in an applied practice experience and defend a dissertation.

Prospective students must have completed a master’s degree program and a minimum of five years of professional experience within a public health or health-related setting. The GRE and other standardized test scores optional.
