Researchers Explore Link between TRPV4 Channels, Diaphragm’s Lymphatic System and Temperature

Article title: TRPV4 channels’ dominant role in the temperature modulation of intrinsic contractility and lymph flow of rat diaphragmatic lymphatics

Authors: Eleonora Solari, Cristiana Marcozzi, Michela Bistoletti, Andreina Baj, Cristina Giaroni, Daniela Negrini, Andrea Moriondo

From the authors: “The present work addresses the putative receptor system that enables diaphragmatic lymphatics to change intrinsic contraction frequency and thus lymph flow according to the changes in temperature of the surrounding environment, showing that this role can be sustained by [transient receptor potential channels of the vanilloid 4 subfamily] alone.”

This study is highlighted as one of September’s “best of the best” as part of the American Physiological Society’s APSselect program.
