INDIANAPOLIS (October 28, 2020) – The Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior Food and Nutrition Extension Education Division is hosting the “What Did You Say vs. What Did You Mean” webinar and online workshop series throughout the month of November designed to improve communication between nutrition educators and diverse audiences. The free webinar will be on November 6 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Eastern. The workshop series will take place on November 13 and 20 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Eastern and is $65 for SNEB members and $90 for nonmembers.
In an era of “fake news” when the majority of clientele are getting nutrition and food information online from unreliable sources, it has become vital for nutrition educators to effectively communicate evidence-based information and break through the noise. The free webinar will introduce health literacy and clear communication and teach educators essential skills to communicate evidence-based messaging to diverse, underserved audiences.
The virtual workshop sessions feature trainers who will actively engage participants in improving nutrition education materials to meet the literacy, language, and cultural needs of the communities they serve. Participants will apply assessment tools to evaluate readability, actionability, and cultural relevance of the materials they use. Invited experts will share real-life applications, highlighting common communication barriers and solutions.
