The Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF) is pleased to announce that the 2025 ABRF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Award will be presented toDr. George Langford, Professor Emeritus of Biology at Syracuse University and founder of PAIR-UP. PAIR-UP provides comprehensive workshops each year on imaging technologies and imaging analysis for African American scientists.
ABRF recognizes Dr. Langford’s contributions to the shared research resource community through his dedication to developing and establishing a comprehensive training and mentoring path for African American scientists; a path that ensures access to exceptional resources, promotes professional development, and advances outstanding science. ABRF celebrates how Dr. Langford’s vision and commitment to equity and inclusion have created a platform that reduces isolation by creating a community of support and collaboration. Furthermore, we want to honor his service on panels, boards, and committees to which he has shared his vision and wisdom, particularly his service on the ABRF DEIB Council.
The ABRF DEIB Award was created to honor, celebrate, and give due recognition to individuals, groups, or organizations whose work has contributed to a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable scientific community. Previous recipients include the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP), 500 Women Scientists, Dr. Tshaka Cunningham, and Feather Ives.
ABRF is honored to recognize Dr. Langford’s contributions to enhancing representation within the research community.
Dr. Langford’s career-long commitment to service is a model for all of us. Establishing and building PAIR-UP has expanded representation among imaging scientists and researchers and created a worldwide network for ongoing education and collaboration.” ABRF President Thayumanasamy Somasundaram
On behalf of the ABRF DEIB Council, we are excited to honor Dr. Langford for his dedication to black scientists and participation on the ABRF DEIB Council. It was a privilege to work alongside George. We look forward to supporting PAIR-UP and its mission. ABRF DEIB Council Co-Chairs Tania Mesa and Mary Winn
