Researchers report that across 16 globally important crops, factoring the increased crop value associated with irrigation results in an average value of water in agriculture of around 0.23 USD/m3; the results provide a spatially distributed global estimation of the value of agricultural water worldwide, even in the absence of water market systems, according to the authors.
