CHICAGO – Sept. 13, 2019 – Radiation oncologists and team members from the Northwestern Medicine Chicago Proton Center and Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center of Northwestern University at Northwestern Memorial Hospital will present research at the annual meeting for the American Society for Radiation Oncology from Sept. 15 to Sept. 18 in Chicago.
Dr. William Hartsell, medical director of the Northwestern Medicine Chicago Proton Center, will provide an oral presentation during the conference:
- Use of hydrogel to reduce rectal toxicity for prostate cancer
- Hartsell also will take part in a presentation about healthcare economics.
Dr. Vinai Gondi will provide an oral presentation on Sunday, Sept. 15:
- Significant presentation of neurocognitive function and patient-reported symptoms with hippocampal avoidance during whole-brain radiotherapy for brain metastases: Final results of NRG Oncology CC001
- Gondi also will take part in the panel discussion, “Advances in the management of brain metastases,” on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The panel will address neurocognitive dysfunction in brain metastases treatment, including measurements, significance and prevention.
Radiation therapist Terri Bevelo will present the results of a study evaluating a smell that some patients notice during treatment of brain tumors.
Connor Lynch, a medical student at the Feinberg School of Medicine, will provide an oral presentation on Monday, Sept. 16:
- Proton therapy for craniospinal radiochemotherapy reduces myelotoxicity and improves chemotherapy completion in adult medulloblastoma
- Lynch also will present a poster on Sept. 16: Toxicity, disease control and survival following proton therapy fractionated re-irradiation for recurrent intracranial meningioma not amenable to radiosurgery
Dr. Eric Donnelly will moderate the ASTRO Young Physicians Workshop and also will present the poster:
- Rectal motion during intensity modulated radiotherapy for post-hysterectomy endometrial and cervical cancer patients
Dr. David Gius is the chair of the educational committee and will speak at the Grant Writing Workshop.
Dr. Laura Ashack, a radiation oncology resident at the Feinberg School of Medicine, will provide an oral presentation:
- A predictive model for radiation oncology no-show appointments
Dr. Chelain Goodman, a radiation oncology resident at the Feinberg School of Medicine, will present an oral presentation:
- Circulating tumor cell status as a predictive biomarker to guide radiotherapy decisions in early-stage breast cancer: a cost-effectiveness analysis
Goodman also will present a poster:
- Nuclear delivery of radiosensitizing EGFR-targeted nanoparticles is abrogated in isogenic cervical cancer cell lines following mutagenesis of the ligand binding domain
Dr. Jeff Gross, a radiation oncology resident at the Feinberg School of Medicine, will present an oral presentation:
- Determining the “organ-at-risk” for lymphedema following regional nodal irradiation in breast cancer
Gross also will present a poster:
- The role of proton therapy to preserve ovarian function and reserve in mice
Dr. Eric Nesbit, a radiation oncology resident at the Feinberg School of Medicine, will present the poster:
- Local control and volumetric response of myeloid sarcoma to radiotherapy – is a single fraction enough?
Dr. Tim Sita, a radiation oncology resident at the Feinberg School of Medicine, will present the poster:
- Dosimetric outcomes for patients undergoing gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery for treatment of 10 or more brain metastases
