Michel Sadelain Receives Fondation ARC Léopold Griffuel Award
Michel Sadelain, MD, PhD, Director of the Center for Cell Engineering, and the Stephen and Barbara Friedman Chair, was named a recipient of the 49th Fondation ARC Léopold Griffuel Award for Translational and Clinical Research. Established in 1970, the Fondation ARC Léopold Griffuel Award is one of the most prestigious prizes for cancer research in Europe. With an award of €150,000, it recognizes internationally renowned researchers whose work has led to a major breakthrough in the study of cancer.
Dr. Sadelain was chosen for this honor because of the impact of his groundbreaking research on cell engineering, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells and their use in providing tailored cancer treatment to patients.
Jedd Wolchok Named Recipient of the ESMO Award for Immuno-Oncology 2020
Jedd Wolchok, MD, PhD, Lloyd J. Old/Virginia and Daniel K. Ludwig Chair in Clinical Investigation; Chief, Immuno-Oncology Service; Director, Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy at MSK; Associate Director, Ludwig Center for Cancer Immunotherapy, is the recipient of the ESMO Award for Immuno-Oncology 2020, by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). The award is presented to an individual internationally recognized for outstanding achievements in the area of Immuno-Oncology. The ESMO Award for Immuno-Oncology, which was created in commemoration of ESMO’s founding member and first President Georges Mathé, is of particular significance this year as it marks the 10-year anniversary of Mathé’s death.
Jason Lewis Named 2020 AAAS Fellow
Radiochemist Jason S. Lewis, PhD, Emily Tow Jackson Chair in Oncology; Vice Chair for Research, Department of Radiology; Chief, Radiochemistry and Imaging Sciences Service, was elected as a 2020 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow. Dr. Lewis was awarded the distinction for his groundbreaking work in molecular imaging and radiochemistry as well as his clinical translation of novel oncological imaging agents.
AAAS Fellows are elected each year by their peers serving on the Council of AAAS, the organization’s member-run governing body. The title recognizes important contributions to STEM disciplines, including pioneering research, leadership within a given field, teaching and mentoring, fostering collaborations, and advancing public understanding of science.
Manisha Jalan Receives the 2020 AACR-Swim Across America Cancer Research Fellowship
Manisha Jalan, DPhil, research scholar in the Simon Powell Lab at MSK, is the recipient of the 2020 AACR-Swim Across America Cancer Research Fellowship. The AACR-Swim Across America Cancer Research Fellowship represents a joint effort between the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and Swim Across America to encourage and support a postdoctoral or clinical research fellow to conduct cancer research and establish a successful career path.
Dr. Jalan completed her PhD at the University of Oxford, where she identified genetic factors required during recombination-dependent replication restart in yeast. Dr. Jalan is currently working on understanding the DNA damage response in mammalian cells.
Neil Vasan Receives the 2020-2021 FDA-AACR Oncology Educational Fellowship
Neil Vasan, MD, PhD, medical oncologist in MSK’s Breast Medicine Service, was named a recipient of the 2020-2021 FDA-AACR Oncology Educational Fellowship by the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).
The FDA-AACR Oncology Educational Fellowship is designed to promote scientific progress through the exchange of knowledge in oncology education, collaborative learning and research. Through targeted educational activities and interactions with experts from the FDA Oncology Center of Excellence and the AACR, the fellows will increase their familiarity and experience with oncology drug development and the regulatory review process. The educational and networking events will be held virtually this year.
Karuna Ganesh Receives the 2020 AACR NextGen Grant for Transformative Cancer Research
Karuna Ganesh, MD, PhD, medical oncologist and physician-scientist, was named a recipient of the 2020 AACR Grant for Transformative Cancer Research by the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) for her project, Dissecting regenerative plasticity of metastasis stem cells.
The AACR NextGen Grants for Transformative Cancer Research represents the AACR’s flagship funding initiative to stimulate highly innovative research from young investigators. This grant mechanism is intended to promote and support creative, paradigm-shifting cancer research that may not be funded through conventional channels.

Michelle Bradbury, MD, PhD and Kayvan Keshari, PhD, have been named 2020 Distinguished Investigators by the Academy of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research. The Distinguished Investigator Award acknowledges and celebrates individuals with high levels of achievement in the field of academic imaging research.
Dr. Bradbury is Director of Intraoperative Imaging in the Department of Radiology and a Laboratory Head in Sloan Kettering Institute’s Molecular Pharmacology Program. Dr. Keshari is a Faculty Member in the Department of Radiology and a Laboratory Head in Sloan Kettering Institute’s Molecular Pharmacology Program.

The IIDA Healthcare Design competition recognizes excellence and originality in healthcare interior design from concept to furnishings and interior spaces. David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care at Memorial Sloan Kettering won the Ambulatory Design category and was the overall Transformation and Innovation Award Winner. MSK Nassau won the Ambulatory Design category.
