Iodine in the stratosphere

Researchers report quantitative aircraft-based measurements of inorganic iodine in the stratosphere as 0.77 parts per trillion by volume; the finding suggests that iodine may be as important as chlorine for ozone loss in the lower stratosphere and that additional human-induced iodine emissions may increase particle formation and will likely continue to affect stratospheric ozone, according to the authors.
