MELVILLE, N.Y., November 19, 2020 — AIP Publishing is pleased to announce the launch of Chemical Physics Reviews (CPR) and publication of the first articles from their latest journal.
The focus for CPR will include experimental and theoretical research in fundamental issues in chemical physics alongside its applications in other branches of science, medicine, and engineering. Its scope will include all areas of chemical physics, such as material surfaces and interfaces, dynamics in chemical processes, polymers and soft matter, environmental and green chemistry, catalysis, supramolecular chemistry, energy storage and conversion, and computational chemical physics.
“As the expanse of the chemical physics research landscape is enormous, there is a clear and perceived need for high quality research and comprehensive review articles presented across these disciplines,” said Felix (Phil) Castellano, editor-in-chief. “CPR can successfully achieve that goal.”
Three articles have been accepted by CPR for publication in November 2020. They were selected by an in-house team of scientific editors that manage the manuscript workflow and review process.
“Emergence of new materials for exploiting highly efficient carrier multiplication in photovoltaics,” from Sourav Maiti, Marco van der Laan, Deepika Poonia, Peter Schall, Sachin Kinge, and Laurens D.A. Siebbeles, examines the excess energy of electrons and holes beyond the band gap that is wasted as heat in conventional solar cell semiconductor materials. They provide an overview of experimental and theoretical methods used to study carrier multiplication, a way to utilize the excess energy.
“Reconfigurable complex emulsions: Design, properties, and applications,” from Rebecca V. Balaj and Lauren D. Zarzar, covers recent advances involving reconfigurable complex droplet design, properties, and applications, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges associated with harnessing complex emulsions as responsive materials. The researchers focus primarily on emulsions in which all droplet phases are immiscible with each other and the continuous phase, such as multiphase oil droplets dispersed in water or multiphase aqueous droplets dispersed in oil.
“Rational design of spinel oxides as bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts for rechargeable Zn-air batteries,” from Yawen Dai, Jie Yu, Meng Ni, and Zongping Shao, describes recent work in the development of spinel oxides as oxygen reduction reaction/oxygen evolution reaction electrocatalysts and their particular application as air electrodes in rechargeable zinc-air batteries. They highlight the current challenges and future directions in the hopes of inspiring researchers to further develop high-performance air cathodes.
Students and postdocs entering this rapidly expanding field will benefit from CPR’s comprehensive reviews that survey, summarize, and contextualize the current literature on important research topics or practical experimental approaches.
“As research in the physical sciences has become increasingly interdisciplinary, AIP Publishing created Chemical Physics Reviews to fill a need in our community for a high-impact publication covering important research in chemical physics.” said Alix Vance, CEO of AIP Publishing. “CPR will follow the model set by Applied Physics Reviews by publishing research and reviews that are instructive and illuminating for both emerging and experienced scientists.”
