Cathy Wood Named Inaugural Vice Dean for Finance and Administration at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

Johns Hopkins Medicine has announced that Cathy Wood has been named the inaugural vice dean for finance and administration at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and senior vice president at Johns Hopkins Medicine. In this new leadership role, Wood will manage the school’s overall financial performance and share oversight of critical administrative functions, including human resources, information technology and department administration in the school of medicine. 

A collaborative senior leader, Wood has more than 30 years of experience in academic medicine, including at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Duke University School of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina and Wake Forest University. Her experience spans executive administration leadership, financial administration, strategic planning, operations and technology services, as well as research, clinical and education administration. 

“Cathy possesses a rare combination of broad-reaching experience, business acumen and collaborative leadership ability that will help strengthen our collective impact and position Johns Hopkins for continued operational excellence,” says Theodore DeWeese, M.D., dean of the medical faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine. “Her combined talents and outstanding track record in academic medicine are a valuable addition to our institution.” 

Wood joins Johns Hopkins from the VCU School of Medicine, where she was the senior associate dean for finance and administration. She also served as the Medical College of Virginia Physicians chief operating officer.

Wood has held a variety of leadership positions in national industry organizations, including president of the Association of Academic Medical Colleges and the Administrators of Internal Medicine. She earned a Master of Business Administration from the Citadel College of Graduate and Professional Studies and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Radford University.
