Book sheds light on work by opposition politicians in Singapore

Journey in Blue: A Peek into the Workers’ Party of Singapore

by former non-constituency member of parliament (NCMP) Yee Jenn Jong covers Jenn Jong’s unexpected leap into opposition politics just weeks before the breakthrough 2011 General Election and his experience as an opposition party member through three contests in the general elections from 2011-2020. The book describes developments within the Workers’ Party as it sought to establish itself on the promise of moving ‘towards a First World parliament.’ Journey in Blue is published by homegrown international publisher World Scientific.

Pritam Singh, Leader of the Opposition and Secretary-General of the Workers’ Party praised the book for being “easily digestible” and providing “some insights into the workings of the WP.” He further commented that “[m]uch work goes on behind the scenes and readers will find this book useful for perspectives that the mainstream and online media sources have not authoritatively or incompletely captured over the years.”

Former Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Manpower Teo Ser Luck had this to say: “An interesting and insightful read about JJ’s political journey. Everyone’s perspective is different and there is much to learn from one another. JJ’s book provided that learning opportunity, not only with his views, but also how he felt at different stages of his journey.”

The book has also been warmly reviewed by fellow parliamentarians including Inderjit Singh, Faizah Jamal, Dennis Tan, Gerald Giam, Leon Perera, Png Eng Huat, Daniel Goh, Calvin Cheng, Nicholas Fang, and others. Professor Kenneth Paul Tan, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore and author of Singapore: Identity, Brand, Power and Governing Global-City Singapore: Legacies and Futures After Lee Kuan Yew contributed the foreword.
