The Vicki L. Krantz Memorial Human Resources Scholarship was established to support individuals at a career crossroads who have demonstrated a life-long passion for learning, hard work and giving back to the community.
As a mentor and UC San Diego Extension educator, Krantz was known for her spirit and team building. Her aim was always to remove barriers for job seekers and human resources professionals. This scholarship honors her memory by removing the barrier of financial need for able candidates looking to establish themselves as HR professionals.
The 2021 Scholarship application deadline is June 1. To apply for the scholarship, applicants must submit a statement demonstrating their interest, background and personal need. Visit Extension’s Human Resource Management Certificate page for more information.
“Vicki was the type of educator who was passionate about helping individuals who found themselves at a crossroads later in life,” said Extension’s Dean Mary Walshok. “She knew that it wasn’t just about where you started but what you did along the way that defined a person. As an active and creative associate dean, she upheld Extension’s greatest mission — to invigorate and inspire the lifelong learner with the tools they need to reinvent and support themselves.”
This scholarship covers the full cost of the Human Resource Management Certificate Program plus tuition and books. Completion of the program varies from 12 to 36 months.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of human resources managers is projected to grow 7 percent from 2018 to 2028, faster than the average for all occupations. As new companies form, adapt their organizations and expand their operations in response to the pandemic, they will need human resources managers to administer and monitor their programs and to ensure that firms adhere to changing employment laws.
“Vicki would have wanted this scholarship to go to someone with a lifelong commitment to learning and a passion for HR because those are people she would have mentored and inspired if she was still teaching,” said Julia Dunlap, Director of Business, Legal, and Safety Programs for UC San Diego Extension’s Business certificates. “She was a great colleague, respected mentor and dear friend and we couldn’t be more proud to keep her legacy alive this way.”
