Experts at Rutgers University–New Brunswick and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences are available for interviews ahead of and through Super Tuesday.
- Ross Baker, distinguished professor of political science, is an expert on American politics. He is a former research associate at the Brookings Institution and has served as a consultant and resident scholar for Democrats in the House and Senate.
“Super Tuesday is a 15-round heavyweight bout in 15 states and territories. Sanders is favored but he won’t be able to score a knockout if Biden stays within 150 delegates of him at the final bell,” Baker said.
Baker can be reached at rosbaker@polisci.rutgers.edu.
- Michael Gusmano, an associate professor at the Rutgers School of Public Health, is an expert in health politics and policy, implementation of the Affordable Care Act, proposals for universal coverage, and health systems in the United States and other countries.
“The competition between Sanders and Biden has profound implications for the direction of health reform during the rest of the 2020 election and beyond,” Gusmano said. “A Sanders victory would lead the Democrats to embrace his Medicare-for-All plan, which would be a threat to those who want to maintain employer-based insurance. In contrast, Biden’s proposal – to build on the Affordable Care Act and incrementally expand coverage with a public insurance option – is likely to be embraced by many older Democrats, but will not excite Sanders’ younger base.”
