Rutgers Professor Leslie M. Kantor, a reproductive health expert, is available to comment on Sen. Ted Cruz’s and other Republican senators’ push to have the FDA ban Mifeprex, the medication used for non-surgical abortions.
“This is another blatant attempt to further restrict legal and safe abortions,” said Kantor, chair of the Rutgers School of Public Health’s Department of Urban-Global Public Health. “Medication abortion has been deemed safe for years and is the type of abortion chosen by more than one-third of women. Maintaining access to this critical tool for women’s health, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, should be a public health priority.”
